Kashmir Tourism: Major Tourist attractions

Kashmir is bestowed by nature with distinctive favors and has no alternative in any part of the world. Nature has gifted it with unimaginable beauty. The valley offers wonderful lakes, fresh water streams, lofty mountains, lush green meadows, beautiful forests and valleys etc. Thousands of tourists are visiting the place to witness the beauty. Some of the places which one could see are as under:


Srinagar is located in the heart of the Kashmir Valley and spreads across the banks of river Jhelum. It is the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the gateway to the paradise and is known for lakes and gardens. The famous Dal Lake and Nigeen lake are in Srinagar. The famous gardens which are present in Srinagar include Chesma-Shahi, Pari Mahal, Nishat Garden, Shalimar Garden, Tulip Garden etc.


Gulmarg is around 50 kms from Srinagar.

It is one of the world’s famous ski resorts. On the way to Gulmarg is another tourist attraction known as Tangmarg. Gulmarg is an important destination in both summers and winters. Gulmarg attracts the huge flow of tourists round the year. One can have gondola ride also in Gulmarg. The beautiful slopes of Gulmarg are covered on the four sides by lush green meadows. It offers world class trekking, horse riding and fishing besides skiing.


Sonmarg, known as the meadows of gold is 84kms from Srinagar. The drive to Sonmarg passes through the Sindh Valley which provides a spectacular view on the way to Sonmarg. It has snowy mountains against a cerulean sky. Sonmarg is the base for major trek that passes through various lakes viz.

Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal. Sonmarg is also the base camp for Amarnath Yatries a part from Pahalgam.


Pahalgam is know as the valley of Shepherds and is about 96 kms from Srinagar. On way to Pahalgam one can see the saffron fields of pampore, Awantipura Ruins (1100 years old temple of Lord Vishnu built by the King Awantivarman), and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Drive throught the pine forests and arrive at Pahalgam and enjoy Lidder stream. The major activities of the tourists in this region are horse riding, golf, fishing, trekking, rafting etc. It is the major resort and around it are lot of other attractions like chandanwari, betab vaadi, Bisern, Aru etc.

Besides these major attraction, there are other lot of attractions which has added to the interests of the tourists. These may include the likes of Daksum, Kokernag, Verinag, Achabal, Ahrabal, Yousmarg, Wullar Lake, Manasbal, Watlab, Lolab Valley, Doodpather etc. In short, Kashmir Tourism offers lot of destination to inspire the tourists to visit the valley.
